2003 Refuge Centennial Celebrations at the
Klamath Basin National Wildlife Refuges
A Month-by-Month Schedule of Events
MAY 24th : The second annual Tule Lake Migratory Bird Festival will feature a rousing speech by Theodore Roosevelt starting at 1:30 pm! This all-day, FREE family event will also include bus tours to nearby wildlife refuges, an art and photography exhibit featuring Klamath Basin artists, programs on wildlife photography and birds of prey, Hispanic cultural dancing, exhibits featuring wildlife information and opportunities, vendor booths, a barbeque hosted by the Tule Lake Volunteer Fire Department, hands-on programs for kids, food, music and much more. Activities will take place from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm with a ribbon cutting for the new Klamath Basin Birding Trail following the Roosevelt speech. JUNE 28th: Office dedication/open house and time capsule interment at Klamath Marsh National Wildlife Refuge. Information booths, exhibits and Native American craft demonstrations will be featured at this event. Contact (541) 783-3380 for details.
JULY 19th: Guided canoe tour of Upper Klamath Refuge. Bring your own canoe or rent one at nearby Rocky Point Resort. Meet at 9:30 at the Rocky Point Boat Launch.
AUGUST 16th*: Clear Lake Refuge tour with lunch at Boles Creek.
SEPTEMBER 20th*: Teacher Wetlands Workshop.
OCTOBER (date to be announced): Celebration of youth waterfowl hunting day.
NOVEMBER (date to be announced): Farming and wildlife on Refuges Tour.
DECEMBER 6th*: The joys of winter birding tour of Tule Lake National Wildlife Refuge.
